Vito

Vito is an Italian form of Vitus, a Latin name traditionally connected with vita, “life.” Saint Vitus gives the name a longstanding Christian association. This history distinguishes it from a modern shortening created merely because the sound is appealing, although it can also function as a short form in other language traditions.

Vitus is the clearest comparison for the Italian name's background. Other names beginning with Vit may have related-looking forms without being interchangeable in every language. Vito is already a complete two-syllable given name and does not require a longer formal expansion. Its life meaning comes from the traditional Latin explanation, rather than a promise of health or longevity for a bearer.
