Vittorio

Vittorio is the Italian form of Victor, from the Latin word for someone who wins or conquers. The doubled t and the expanded ending give the Italian name a different rhythm from the shorter English form, while the underlying meaning remains the same. Vittoria is its feminine counterpart.

Italian cinema supplies two particularly recognizable bearers: Vittorio De Sica and Vittorio Gassman. Their names connect Vittorio with the country's acting and filmmaking history, giving it a cultural association beyond the idea of victory. The form is useful for a family wishing to preserve an Italian version of a shared name rather than translating it to Victor.
