Vivien

Vivien belongs to the Latin name family connected with vivus, meaning alive or living. Its history includes masculine use in French as well as feminine use in English, showing how the same spelling can develop differently across languages. Vivian and Vivienne are close relatives within that broader family.

Actor Vivien Leigh gives this spelling a particularly recognizable screen association. The name also appears in Arthurian literature, adding another strand to its cultural history. For families considering Vivien, the Latin life connection offers a clear central meaning, while the spelling can reflect a favorite performer, an inherited name, or a preference for this compact form over the longer Vivienne.
