Xion

Xion can point to two different naming traditions. Some families use it as a modern spelling of Zion, the biblical place name associated with Jerusalem. Others recognize Xion as the localized name of a character in the Japanese Kingdom Hearts games, whose name is written Shion in standard Japanese transliteration. Those routes explain different uses of the same letters.

The game character gives Xion a specific fictional identity, while the Zion-inspired spelling points to a sacred place with a much older history. The intended sound can differ between those choices. For families considering the name, identifying the story they want to preserve is more helpful than assigning the same translation to both. The game’s distinctive spelling is separate from the usual Japanese transliteration.
