Yehoshua

Yehoshua is the Hebrew form of Joshua, combining a reference to God with salvation or deliverance. In the Hebrew Bible, Yehoshua succeeds Moses as leader of the Israelites. The name therefore has both a clear religious meaning and a prominent individual bearer within the biblical narrative.

Joshua is the familiar English form, while Yeshua is a shorter Hebrew form within the same historical family. The form known in English as Jesus developed through a different path of Greek and Latin transmission from that family. Yehoshua preserves the longer Hebrew shape and remains a living Jewish given name. For a family choosing it, that direct connection with Hebrew language and tradition may be as important as the English translation.
