Yehudis

Yehudis is an Ashkenazi pronunciation and spelling of Yehudit, the Hebrew name known in English as Judith. Its meaning concerns a woman of Judea or a Jewish woman. The final s reflects a traditional pronunciation of the Hebrew letter tav in certain contexts, giving this form a particular place within Ashkenazi Jewish naming.

Judith is also the central figure in the ancient Book of Judith, providing a recognizable literary and religious association for the wider name family. Yehudis preserves the Hebrew form more directly than English Judith while signaling a specific pronunciation tradition. Families may choose it to honor a relative or maintain continuity with the names used in their community, where the full form carries its own familiar identity.
