Yesenia

Yesenia is associated with Jessenia, a botanical name used for South American palms. Its rise as a personal name is closely connected with the Mexican writer Yolanda Vargas Dulché and the character Yesenia, whose story reached audiences through television and film. That combination gives the name both a plant connection and a distinct popular-cultural history.

Jessenia and Yessenia are alternative spellings within the same modern name family. The initial sound varies with language and accent, while the familiar Spanish form has three syllables. Families may choose it for its sound, for a relative, or for the story that helped establish it. The botanical and Mexican cultural connections are firmer than an additional claim that it is an Arabic word for flower.
