Yosef

Yosef is a Hebrew form of Joseph, from a name built around the idea of adding or increasing. It is commonly explained as “he will add” or “may God add.” In Genesis, Joseph is the son of Jacob and Rachel whose story moves from family conflict to a position of authority in Egypt.

The spelling Yosef keeps the initial y associated with the Hebrew form, while Joseph reflects a different path through other languages into English. Yossi and Yosi are familiar short forms in the same name family. Choosing Yosef can preserve a direct connection to Hebrew naming without changing the underlying biblical figure or meaning. The various spellings represent linguistic traditions rather than separate promises about a child's future.
