Younes

Younes is a form of Yunus, the Arabic name corresponding to Jonah. Its ultimate Hebrew source means dove, although that meaning comes through the older name family rather than from the ordinary Arabic word for the bird. The spelling Younes is especially familiar in North African and French-language contexts, where different conventions help represent the Arabic sounds.

Yunus is honored as a prophet in Islam, and his story connects the name with the biblical Jonah known in Jewish and Christian traditions. Younes can therefore carry a specifically Muslim family tradition while belonging to a name family shared across religions. Yunus and Younis are related written forms rather than names with separate meanings.
