Zakariya

Zakariya is an Arabic form in the Zechariah name family, ultimately from Hebrew elements meaning “God remembers.” In Islamic tradition, Zakariya is a prophet and the father of Yahya, known as John in the corresponding biblical tradition. That shared history gives the name a connection across religious languages while preserving its distinct Arabic form.

Zakariyya and Zakaria are common ways of representing the name in the Latin alphabet. Zak offers a brief everyday option, while the complete name has a flowing rhythm with several syllables. Parents honoring a Zachariah or Zachary may find Zakariya a meaningful related form. The choice among spellings often reflects family preference and language rather than a change in the name’s underlying meaning.
