Zamora

Zamora is a Spanish place name and surname that is also used as a given name. The Spanish city stands beside the Duero River in Castile and León and is known for its medieval character and Romanesque buildings. That documented geographical identity provides a clearer explanation than assigning the name an uncertain attractive word meaning.

A family may choose Zamora to preserve a surname or to remember a particular place. Those personal histories can be more specific than the city reference alone, since a surname may have passed through many generations and countries. As a first name, Zamora retains the full place-name shape rather than functioning as a short form of another given name.
