Zarina

Zarina belongs to the Persian word family built around zar, meaning gold, and zarin, meaning golden. It is used in several languages and communities influenced by Persian naming, including parts of South and Central Asia. Golden is the central idea; a golden vessel adds a specific object that the name itself does not require.

The name also appears in ancient accounts of a queen commonly called Zarina or Zarinaia, although those accounts belong to a mixture of history and storytelling. Its resemblance to the Russian title tsarina is a separate matter: the royal title has a different linguistic origin. Parents can appreciate Zarina’s precious-metal meaning without treating it as a literal title of royalty. The spelling Zareena makes the long middle vowel more explicit in English.
