Zechariah

Zechariah is an English biblical form of a Hebrew name meaning “Yahweh has remembered.” Several biblical figures bear it, including the prophet associated with the Book of Zechariah. Zachariah and Zachary belong to the same name family, but differ in spelling and in how their forms developed through other languages.

Zech or Zach can provide a short everyday form, while the full name has a substantial four-syllable rhythm in common English use. Parents may prefer Zechariah when they want the spelling found in many Bible translations. It does not need to be shortened automatically, and a family's chosen nickname can reflect the written form rather than follow one supposedly compulsory convention.
