Zorion

Zorion is a Basque word for happiness that is also used as a personal name. It belongs to the tradition of drawing names from meaningful everyday vocabulary, with the positive wish already present in the word itself. Its related feminine form is Zorione, which adds an ending used in Basque feminine naming.

The meaning also overlaps with good fortune, placing Zorion near names such as Felix in sentiment even though their languages and roots are different. Basque naming gives Zorion a cultural identity distinct from the Spanish and French names of neighboring communities. For families drawn to it, the strongest connection is that combination of language and meaning: a clear expression of happiness in an established Basque form, with a related feminine option if they are comparing names within the same tradition.
