Zulema

Zulema is a Spanish name usually connected with Sulayman, the Arabic form of Solomon. Through that proposed relationship it is associated with peace, although its precise path of development is not certain. Peace is therefore a traditional interpretation rather than a firmly demonstrated literal translation of Zulema itself.

The name has also traveled through literature and drama. Voltaire used the related form Zulime for a tragic heroine, giving this family of names a literary association alongside its Arabic and Spanish background. Zuleima and Zulma are related forms. Parents choosing Zulema can appreciate that cultural history while keeping the uncertainty of its earliest origin visible.
