Zyon

Zyon is a modern spelling of Zion, the biblical place name associated with Jerusalem. The exact ancient etymology of Zion is uncertain, so “highest place” should not be presented as a settled literal translation. Its religious and geographical associations are clearer than that simplified definition.

The y changes the written form while usually preserving the same two-syllable English sound. Zy is a possible short form, although Zyon itself is brief. Families may choose it for a religious connection, a meaningful place reference, or the distinctive initial letter. An alternative spelling does not erase Zion's broader cultural associations, and it is more useful to explain the family's intended connection than assume the spelling creates a completely separate name.
