Amaya

Amaya is used as a Spanish surname and given name and is associated with the Spanish place called Amaya. It can also be a spelling of Basque Amaia, meaning “the end.” Those connections should be distinguished rather than compressed into one translation. A Japanese surname written Amaya represents another linguistic history.

Amaia makes the Basque form particularly visible, while Amaya uses a y that many English and Spanish readers will recognize easily. The name usually has three syllables, with the central vowel carrying much of its sound. A family connection to the place, surname, or Basque name gives a clearer explanation than automatically attaching a Japanese rain meaning.
