Amia

Amia is a modern name often connected with Amy, the English form of French Aimée, meaning beloved. That interpretation gives it an affectionate background, though the spelling can also be chosen as a blend of familiar names. Its relationship with Amy is best understood as one naming route rather than a fixed explanation for every family’s choice.

Compared with Amy, Amia opens out into a more flowing form with a final a. The written name also contains Mia, which helps explain its appeal as a combination name. For parents choosing it specifically to honor an Amy, that connection can be made explicit in the family story; the newer spelling does not erase the older name’s meaning.
