Anaia

Anaia can be interpreted as a modern form related to Hebrew Anaiah, traditionally meaning “the Lord has answered.” Anaiah is a biblical masculine name, while Anaia is used for girls in contemporary naming. Separately, anaia is a Basque word for a brother; that lexical resemblance does not prove that every modern given name Anaia began in Basque.

The flowing vowels can lead English readers to more than one pronunciation, so the family's intended sound is worth making clear. Ana provides a familiar short form. Parents who choose the Hebrew connection may prefer to explain Anaiah explicitly, while those with a Basque family story can emphasize that different relationship. Keeping the two possibilities separate gives the name a more accurate and useful account than combining their meanings.
