Angeline

Angeline is a French form in the Angela name family, ultimately related to Greek angelos, meaning messenger. Through religious use, the same word became associated with angels, which explains the familiar angel meaning. The name’s history therefore includes both the older word and its later spiritual significance.

Angela and Angelina are close relatives, with different endings rather than separate roots. Angie can serve as a familiar form, while Angeline keeps its full ending prominent. In English it is commonly distinguished from Angelina by the final sound, though pronunciations vary by language. A family can choose Angeline for a religious association or to honor an Angela without having to use exactly the same name.
