Angie

Angie is a familiar short form of Angela and other names in the same family. These names connect with the word angel, ultimately from Greek for a messenger. The religious association developed from that older word, so “angel” describes the name’s history rather than a prediction about the child’s temperament.

Angie has also been used as a full given name, independent of Angela. Its two syllables make it a complete everyday choice, while Angela, Angelina, or Angelica provides a longer formal option. The Rolling Stones song “Angie” is another recognizable cultural reference, separate from the name’s older linguistic and religious roots.
