Arielle

Arielle is a French feminine form of Ariel, a Hebrew name usually translated as “lion of God.” The elle ending changes the name's form and style without supplying a separate meaning. Ariel has a broader history of use, so Arielle's feminine formation should not be projected backward onto every occurrence of the original name.

The ending provides Elle or Ellie as possible short forms, while Ari keeps the beginning. Arielle may also suggest a different stress pattern from Ariel to English speakers, so it is worth saying your preferred version aloud. The Little Mermaid character uses the spelling Ariel; that familiar association may still arise, but Arielle has a naming history beyond the film and does not depend on a fictional character for its origin.
