Aryan

Aryan is used in South Asian and Iranian naming traditions and is associated with an older Indo-Iranian term for nobility or honor. It has a legitimate cultural history independent of the racial ideology that later misused the word. In English-speaking settings, however, that later misuse may be the association some people recognize first, which is relevant when considering the name.

Families choosing Aryan for heritage may want to explain that background clearly and decide how comfortable they are with possible misunderstandings. Arian is a related spelling in some traditions, but it also has independent uses. Arjun offers a different Indian name to compare if the preferred opening sound matters more than this particular meaning.
