Aster

Aster is a flower name drawn from the Greek word for a star, reflecting the star-like arrangement of the flower’s petals. That makes its botanical and celestial associations part of the same word history. Used as a personal name in English, it can point directly to the plant while retaining the older Greek meaning behind the botanical term.

Aster also occurs in Ethiopian naming as a form related to Esther. That is a separate personal-name route, and Esther’s own origin is debated even though a star explanation is familiar. For a family choosing Aster, identifying the intended connection keeps the story clear: a flower, a Greek star word, or an Ethiopian family name. Its use for boys and girls allows those meanings to be carried without changing the spelling.
