Baylor

Baylor is a surname used as a first name. A meaning such as “horse trainer” is sometimes given, but that explanation is not secure enough to describe every surname family. The established surname use is more certain than one specific occupational translation.

Baylor University in Texas provides a familiar institutional association. Bay can be a personal nickname, though the English word bay does not by itself explain the full name’s origin. Families may choose Baylor for an ancestral connection, an educational connection, or its sound. Those reasons can be meaningful without assigning a doubtful occupation to the older surname.
