Beatriz

Beatriz is the Spanish and Portuguese form of Beatrix, a name whose history brings together blessedness and travel. Early forms have been connected with Latin Viatrix, meaning a female traveler, while the spelling Beatrix came to be associated with beatus, meaning blessed. These overlapping histories explain why more than one meaning appears for the name.

The final z gives Beatriz a different appearance from Italian Beatrice or English Beatrix. Its sound also changes with language: Spanish and Portuguese do not always pronounce that final letter alike. Bea is a familiar shorter form. A family may prefer Beatriz for a Spanish or Portuguese connection while keeping the same historical family as the other well-established European forms.
