Beckett

Beckett is a surname used as a given name. Its proposed origins include English place-name and nickname explanations, so meanings involving a brook, a bee, or a beehive should not be combined into one certain translation. The surname's literary associations are much clearer, especially through Irish playwright Samuel Beckett.

Thomas Becket, the medieval Archbishop of Canterbury, provides another historical association with the single-t spelling. Beck is a straightforward shorter form, while Beckett has two syllables on its own. Families choosing it for a writer, saint, or relative can make that connection explicit rather than assuming every bearer belongs to the same surname lineage.
