Benny

Benny is a familiar short form of Benjamin, Benedict, and several other Ben names, and it is also used independently. Benjamin is associated with “son of the right hand,” while Benedict means “blessed.” These are different histories, so Benny's meaning depends on the longer-name connection a family actually intends.

Bandleader Benny Goodman and comedian Benny Hill give the name recognizable cultural associations. Bennie is an alternative spelling, and Ben provides a shorter everyday form. Parents who like Benny most can choose it as the complete name rather than adding a formal version solely for appearances. If it honors a relative, preserving that person's original name in the family story can make the connection clear.
