Braxton

Braxton is an English surname used as a first name. Its earlier place-name origin is not fully settled: a surname dictionary links it with Brackstone and possibly a place called Broxton in Hampshire. The familiar gloss “Brock’s settlement” is therefore better treated cautiously than repeated as a certain translation.

Singer Toni Braxton gives the surname a musical association, while its use as a given name extends beyond that connection. Brax is a direct shortening of the two-syllable BRAK-stun. The x is part of the established surname spelling, even though it also fits modern naming tastes. Parents considering Braxton may be drawn to a family surname, its sound, or that music connection rather than a single literal meaning.
