Bryn

Bryn is the Welsh word for a hill and a traditional Welsh personal name. Its landscape meaning is direct: it is the same compact word seen in Welsh place names. The letter y functions as a vowel here, so the four-letter spelling forms one complete syllable rather than an abbreviation.

In Wales, Bryn has a long association with boys, while families elsewhere also use it for girls. The character Uncle Bryn in Gavin and Stacey provides a familiar Welsh cultural reference. Brynn is a related spelling, but the single-n Bryn keeps the exact appearance of the Welsh word. For parents seeking a short nature name with a particular language behind it, that clear word-and-name connection is its strongest feature.
