Caesar

Caesar began as a Roman family name and became closely associated with Julius Caesar, the general and dictator of the Roman Republic. Its earliest meaning is uncertain. A connection with a Latin word for hair is one proposal, but no single explanation should be presented as the settled meaning of the name.

After Julius Caesar, the name became part of the language of Roman imperial rule. Its influence extended into later titles including Kaiser and Tsar, showing how a personal family name could develop a much wider political life. Cesar, César, and Cesare are related forms used in different languages. Caesar keeps the classical spelling and its unmistakable historical association.
