Cam

Cam is a familiar short form of Cameron, the Scottish surname built from Gaelic elements meaning “crooked nose.” That phrase began as a descriptive surname expression; it is not a description of a child named Cam. Other longer names can also supply the sound Cam, so the Cameron meaning depends on the intended relationship.

At three letters and one syllable, Cam can function as a complete given name as well as an everyday shortening. Cameron preserves the fuller Scottish surname connection, while Cam puts the familiar form first. It is used for boys and girls. A family's longer honor name can help explain which history belongs to their particular choice.
