Carsen

Carsen is a modern spelling of Carson, a given name adopted from a surname. Carson is associated with Scottish and northern British family histories, but its precise early derivation is uncertain. The appealing explanation son of a marsh dweller should therefore not be treated as an established translation of every Carsen.

The e changes the written ending while usually preserving the familiar English sound of Carson. A family may prefer this spelling to distinguish a child from a namesake or to continue a particular family form. Both Carsen and Carson have been used as given names across gender categories. The spelling does not determine a personality or a fixed style; its strongest historical relationship remains with the surname-based name.
