Celine

Celine is a spelling of French Céline, a name connected with the Roman Caelinus family and traditionally associated with “heavenly.” Céline can also be a short form of Marceline, so the history may differ when it began as a family nickname. It is not simply the French spelling of the Greek moon name Selene.

Singer Céline Dion gives the name a widely recognized musical connection. Celine Varens appears in Jane Eyre, adding a literary reference. English speakers commonly say suh-LEEN, while French pronunciation uses different vowel sounds. Keeping or omitting the accent changes the written form, but families can still preserve the pronunciation and personal connection they prefer.
