What does Cory mean?
Cory means “Possibly a hollow; also a short form”.
Cory is a spelling of Corey and can share its surname background. One explanation connects that surname with an Irish name associated with a hollow or a hollow-shaped landscape feature. Because Corey has more than one possible surname history, this meaning is best presented as one established explanation rather than a certainty for every family.
Cory can also arise informally from a longer name beginning with Cor-, in which case the full name determines its ancestry and meaning. That makes it useful to distinguish a standalone Cory from a nickname used within a family. The spelling without an e has its own history of use, even though it usually sounds the same as Corey in English.
