Crosby

Crosby comes from an English place-name surname built from Old Norse elements for a cross and a settlement or farm. Its history reflects Scandinavian influence on place names in Britain. Although families with the surname may have Irish or Scottish connections, describing the name simply as an Irish word misses that older geographical derivation.

Musicians Bing Crosby and David Crosby give it recognizable musical associations, but the surname predates both. Its two syllables and by ending make it an easy comparison with other place-derived names such as Whitby or Selby. Crosbie offers another spelling to consider, especially when honoring family ancestry. Crosby works in full without a nickname and may appeal to parents who want a surname name with both a clear place history and cultural references.
