Danika

Danika is a spelling of Danica, a Slavic name connected with the morning star. The underlying word is related to dan, meaning “day,” and the morning star is traditionally identified with Venus when it is visible before sunrise. This gives the name a celestial association grounded in language and folklore rather than a modern invented star meaning.

The k spelling makes the consonant sound familiar to many English readers. In the original Slavic form Danica, the c often has a sound closer to ts, so changing the spelling can also reflect a different pronunciation in English use. Dani is a straightforward short form. Parents choosing Danika can retain the dawn and Venus story while recognizing that this version adapts an older Slavic name for a different spelling environment.
