Darien

Darien is used as a personal name and is also familiar through the town in Connecticut. In naming it is often treated as a form of Darian, which can connect with the Darius family. That route brings an older Persian background, although a family's Darien may instead be chosen for the place or for the name's sound.

The spelling also appears in geographical references beyond Connecticut, making the particular place intended worth identifying in a family story. Darian is the closest written comparison for the personal-name route. Darien offers a complete three-syllable form with several possible associations, so the most accurate meaning depends on whether a family is honoring a person, a place, or a longer name tradition.
