Davi

Davi is a Portuguese form of David, a Hebrew biblical name traditionally interpreted as “beloved.” Its background is the same name family as King David, rather than a new meaning created by dropping the final d. It is particularly familiar in Brazilian naming, though the name is not limited to one country.

In Portuguese, the stress and vowel sounds differ from the English nickname Davy that readers may imagine from the spelling. That distinction is useful when deciding how the name will be introduced in an English-speaking setting. Davi is a full established form, not necessarily a nickname awaiting expansion to David. It can preserve a David-family tribute while using a Portuguese written and spoken form.
