Demarcus

Demarcus is a modern American formation combining the prefix De with Marcus. Marcus is a Roman name traditionally associated with Mars, giving the longer name a classical root beneath its newer structure. The De prefix is part of the naming pattern and does not have to indicate that the child's father is named Marcus.

The name has a recognized place in African American naming traditions, where familiar names have often been extended into distinctive new forms. DeMarcus makes the two parts visible with an internal capital, while Demarcus presents them as one word. A family may use either spelling to honor a Marcus or simply choose the complete name for its own sound and established usage.
