Demetri

Demetri belongs to the Greek Demetrios family, a group of names referring to Demeter. In Greek mythology, Demeter is the goddess associated with agriculture and the growing of grain. The meaning is therefore a connection to the goddess, often expressed as belonging to Demeter, rather than a direct translation of Demetri as earth or harvest.

Compared with Demetrius and Demetrios, Demetri ends earlier while keeping the recognizable beginning. It can suit a family wanting to carry forward that longer name without using its full classical ending. The link with ancient mythology gives this relatively compact form a story beyond its spelling.
