Deon

Deon is a spelling related to Dion, a shortened form associated with Dionysius. That Greek name comes from Dionysus, the deity connected with wine and revelry. The god's own name has a debated deeper etymology, so a neat translation such as “child of heaven and earth” is less secure than the documented naming relationship.

The e distinguishes Deon from Dion on the page while preserving a similar two-syllable sound in English. Deon can stand as the complete given name rather than requiring a longer formal version. Dionysius makes the older Greek connection more explicit; Deon offers a compact way to retain that history without the longer ending.
