Devonte

Devonte is a modern American name usually associated with Devon and the use of an extended -te ending. It became especially familiar in African American naming traditions. Devon itself has several possible routes, including the English place name, so there is no single ancient phrase that translates every use of Devonte.

Basketball player Devonte’ Graham is a recognizable bearer of a closely punctuated form. Spellings such as Devonté use an accent to suggest the final syllable, while Devonte is often written without one. The name’s history belongs to the creative reshaping of familiar personal names within a living community. Its meaning may also be personal when it honors a Devon or another relative with a similar name.
