Drake

Drake has more than one English association. In surname history it can connect with an older word for a dragon, while the ordinary modern noun drake refers to a male duck. These word histories should be distinguished rather than treated as two descriptions of the same animal. A family's surname connection may help explain which background matters.

Drake has one syllable and a firm final sound, so it generally needs no nickname. The musician Drake, whose given name includes Aubrey, is an obvious contemporary association, while the surname also appears in older history. Parents may like either the animal imagery or the concise sound, but the name does not require an invented story about bravery or leadership.
