Edgardo

Edgardo is the Spanish and Italian form of Edgar, whose Old English components refer to wealth or good fortune and a spear. These are two traditional name elements rather than a complete sentence. The final vowel gives Edgardo a different rhythm from Edgar while preserving its underlying name family.

A particularly distinctive cultural connection is Edgardo Ravenswood, Lucia’s lover in Donizetti’s opera Lucia di Lammermoor. Their relationship is threatened by a feud between their families, making Edgardo one of the central figures in the tragedy. The opera offers an Italian-language setting for a name with English roots. For families connecting an Edgar in one generation with an Edgardo in another, that linguistic relationship provides a clear and established link.
