Efrain

Efrain is the unaccented spelling of Spanish Efraín, a form of the Hebrew biblical name Ephraim. Its traditional meaning concerns fruitfulness. In Genesis, Ephraim is a son of Joseph, and his name also becomes associated with one of the tribes of Israel. The personal name and tribal reference therefore share a specific scriptural history.

The accent in Efraín marks the stressed syllable in Spanish, which can be lost when a database or keyboard omits diacritics. Efrain may represent the same name in those circumstances. Ephraim is the familiar English biblical form and a useful comparison for family research. Neither spelling changes the underlying fruitfulness meaning into a prediction about the bearer's life.
