Emmitt

Emmitt is a spelling of Emmett, a name with surname history and a common explanation through an older diminutive of Emma. In that route it is connected with a Germanic element for wholeness or universality. The Hebrew word for truth is a separate word and should not automatically be assigned to every Emmitt because of a similar sound.

The final itt distinguishes this form from Emmett and Emmet, while the usual two-syllable English pronunciation remains close. Football player Emmitt Smith is a familiar bearer of the exact spelling. A family surname connection can supply a more specific history than the broad name-family explanation alone.
