Emry

Emry is a shortened form of Emery, a name with Germanic roots through Emmerich. The older name contains an element meaning “ruler,” while its first element has several proposed explanations. A simple gloss such as “industrious” captures only one interpretation and should not be treated as the complete, certain history of Emry.

Removing the middle e gives Emry a compact spelling while keeping its connection with Emery visible. It can also resemble the Welsh name Emrys, but that similarity does not make the two names identical in origin. A family using Emry as an honor form of Emery has a clear connection without needing to combine the Germanic and Welsh explanations into one meaning.
