Estela

Estela is a Spanish form in the Estelle and Estella name family, ultimately connected with Latin stella, “star.” Its celestial meaning is direct rather than a symbolic interpretation added later. The single l spelling is an established form, not simply an accidental omission from Estella.

Estelle provides a related French form, while Estella retains the final a with a different consonant spelling. These variations can offer different ways to honor the same star-name family. Estela also resembles Stella without being identical in spelling or usual rhythm. A family choosing it for the night sky can explain the Latin connection clearly without assigning a particular constellation, mythological figure, or promise of fame to the name.
