Everest

Everest is a mountain name that comes from the surname of surveyor George Everest. The surname is associated with the French place Évreux, so the name’s literal history is different from a translation such as “highest” or “greatest.” Those ideas come from the mountain’s scale and reputation rather than from the surname itself.

The name is used for boys and girls and may appeal to families with a personal connection to mountains or travel. Everett is similar in sound but has a separate origin. Choosing Everest can therefore express a geographical association without making it a variation of Everett, and the mountain story remains visible in the full spelling.
